RAVENS OWN WINS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
Only 3 years ago he was running around in the red and green of Bayside Ravens, but today, Jesse Williams is a BCS National Champion as a member of the Alabama Crimson Tide.
The Crimson Tide completed a 21-0 domination of Louisiana State University at the Superdome in New Orleans, the Alabama defense shutting down the Tigers. A feat predicted by Williams earlier in the day, announcing prophetically to his father “They won’t score”.
A member of the Ravens junior program for four seasons and a two-time National Champion in Australia with the Queensland Sundevils, he achieved a feat that not many Americans can lay claim to, let alone an Aussie – winning a BCS Title.
As a starter on the Alabama team in only his first season, it is certainly a remarkable achievement, Jesse making history as the first Australian to collect such prize.
“It is an amazing story of success”, said Ravens Coach Steve Box. “Jesse is a pioneer for our sport as a player who came through the club’s development program, the state program and National team to reach this collegiate pinnacle”.
“Imagine how incredible it will be when he becomes the first in the NFL to be a product of our local system”, added Box.
Ravens President Liam Flannery noted the next goal for the club...”Find the next crop of players who can follow in the large footsteps Jesse is laying across the USA”.
With Ravens sign on for juniors (14-17) and seniors (18+) taking place in April, the time is now for prospective Ravens to take the first step in the football journey, just like Jesse did in 2005.
